‘Seven’ is the seventh track from Taylor Swift's 2020 album Folklore. Written through the eyes of a seven year old child, ‘Seven’ alludes to escaping from the ties of domestic violence through imaginative play. What I found particularly touching about this song is the naiveté of the narrator. She cannot understand the abusive behaviour of her friend's father and so she posits an imaginative explanation for it:
‘And I’ve been meaning to tell you,
I think your house is haunted.
Your dad is always mad
And that must be why.'
The song is positioned second in ‘The Liminal Lady' performance to set the scene for the Liminal Lady's journey to take place; something traumatic has happened and we are to make sense of it through our imagination.
